Maternity and parental leaveThe information on maternity and parental leave is mentioned in the general section of the Curriculum and Examination Regulations of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. Paragraph (7) of § 6 on Revocation of Admission, Revocation of Right to Examination; Deadlines, states that the period of maternity leave are to be considered accordingly to the Maternity Protection Act, the period of maternity leave will not be deducted from the period according to the Examination Regulations, the limit for parental leave has to be considered in accordance with the law on granting child-rearing allowance and parental leave (BErzGG). Candidates must inform the Examinations Office in writing at least four weeks before they wish to take parental leave, enclosing the evidence required, for which period(s) they wish to take parental leave. The Examination Committee must check whether the legal requirements are satisfied which would lead to an employee being entitled to parental leave according to the law on child-rearing allowance and parental leave and informs the candidate without delay about the results and the resultant revised examination deadlines. The deadlines involved in a Master's thesis cannot be interrupted by parental leave. The topic given counts as not set. After parental leave has expired the candidate will be given a new topic.
Examination DeadlinesThere are special examination deadlines for students with children. These deadlines are implemented in the general section of the Curriculum and Examination Regulations of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences as following: Paragraph (7) of § 6 on Revocation of Admission, Revocation of Right to Examination; Deadlines, states that any students, who is living in the same household with a child under age 10 or have to look after family member in need of care, is entitled to complete individual graded examinations and university exams after the deadlines provided by the Examination Regulations. The same applies for the completion of non-graded examinations. Deadlines for retake exams and fixed examinations can be extended by no more than two semesters. The entitlement expires at the end of the semester, as the conditions referred to in the 1st clause are eliminated completely or partially. The deadline for the termination of the examination entitlement under Paragraph 3 and 4 begins with the termination of entitlement. The student has to carry out the relevant evidence, and he is obliged to notify changes in the conditions immediately.
ExeatThere are no statements on exeat in the general section of the Curriculum and Examination Regulations of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. You can find in the download section of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences the application form for one or more exeat semesters. Students, who are in maternity leave according to the Maternity Protection Act respectively in parental leave according to the Child-rearing allowance and Parental Leave Act can take an exeat semester and participate in course, accomplish graded and non-graded examinations and use the university establishments. At the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, the exeat semester in this special situation allows the release of the exam registration and the possibility of inputting notes. An automatic registration for examinations is not secured. The affected persons must register individually in the online system for the examinations. This is also indicated on the exeat notice.
