The Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe is relying on the use of recyclable materials as part of its sustainability activities. We only use plastics in our facilities where it is absolutely necessary for hygienic or other reasons. All other packaging, our disposable crockery, cutlery and straws are made exclusively from so-called renewable raw materials. Specifically, we rely on materials made from polylactic acid (PLA), which is obtained from lactic acid, as well as fibers from the sugar cane plant, which are laminated with a polymer and are biodegradable. We also try to use packaging made from recycled paper wherever possible.
We attach great importance to food hygiene and safety. For this reason, we use high-priced materials that are safe and hygienic when used once in the heating process. You can find more information about our sustainability activities here.
