Did you know?
Did you know that Berliners are called Pfannkuchen in Berlin? There are different regional names for this “spherical pastry.”

Linguist Stephan Elspaß has researched this topic: In eastern Germany, they are called “Pfannkuchen,” in western Germany “Berliner,” in Bavaria, Austria, and South Tyrol “Krapfen” or “Faschingskrapfen,” in Hesse mainly “Kräppel,” and in Baden-Württemberg and the Palatinate/Saarland region, some people say ‘Fastnachtsküchle’ or “Fastnachtsküchelchen.” “Berliner” and ‘Pfannkuchen’ are actually just abbreviations for “Berliner Pfannkuchen.”
